The Inhabitants of Mystic Moon

The world of Mystic Moon is inhabited by several species. Below is information for each. Please check the availability numbers on the Masterlist page before reserving/applying.

Calling these species "immortal" is a slight misnomer. These creatures generally stop visibly aging after a point in their 20s or 30s, and will not succumb to aging, disease, or other natural causes of death. They can, however, be killed.

Elves & Half-Elves

Also known as fair folk, the immortal elves are a majestic race that predates all other races that still exist today. Although famed for their inspiring beauty and might, their elusiveness and rarity lends them a mythical reputation even among other creatures of magic. To most mortals, they are the stuff of legend and a time long gone, yet at present, many walk among ordinary people, hidden in plain sight.

High Elves (Moon Elves + Sun Elves)

At the top of their racial hierarchy are the Elves of the Moon and the Sun, represented by the shine of Silver and Gold respectively. They are the only fair folk to have reached the Undying Lands after a long and perilous journey. There, they have been blessed with immense power by the light of the celestial bodies from which they have been named.

While both are hailed as High Elves, they have stark differences as well. The Silver Elves are more flexible and compassionate in socializing with mortals and other magical races while their Gold brethren are typically more elitist, keeping to the elven race.

Wood Elves

A step down the ladder are the Wood Elves, whose several kingdoms are found in lowland and highland forests. They are renowned for their expert skill in archery and strategy, which they use to protect their arboreal territories.

Ages past, they traveled with the high elves as part of the same tribe. But little by little, they abandoned the quest, choosing to settle in different parts of the mortal world. pw 3: If your character were stranded on an island what would he bring? There with magic, they have built and concealed their own realms, and although today they possess formidable magical, physical, and intellectual prowess, they are not as powerful nor as enlightened as those who have finished the journey.

Wild Elves

Rarely met even by other fair folk are the Wild Elves. For most of history, they have not been seen by other races at all. They were the elves who did not embark towards the Undying Lands in the first place, thus cursed to forever roam the mortal world as nomadic tribes. Whenever they stay for more than 100 moons (approximately 8 years) in one place, the surrounding nature starts to wither and waste. This is why they are regarded as the least dignified of their kind, and even now they are thought to bear the shame of the past.

Half Elves

Half Elves are born when pureblooded fair folk produce offspring with a half elf or someone of a different race. What makes them unique is that once they come of age they are given a choice whether to live as the other race or as one of the fair folk. Whichever life they choose, they can still have half-elven children, but only with a pureblood elf. For instance, if a half elf had a child with a human, their baby would automatically be human.

Fae

In their true form, Faes commonly appear as small beings with insectile wings and other physical characteristics unique to each one. They can communicate with nature to a limited extent, in that plants and animals understand their message clearly, but they are unable to directly understand plants and animals in return. Aside from that, they control the certain elements within limits that vary from person to person.

In their corporeal form they are mortal yet ageless, and if not for their petite frame, they could be mistaken for elves because of their pointy ears. They possess beauty that can be described as otherworldly, often enhanced by their use of delicate garments, fresh flowers, wondrous jewelry, and lustrous natural pigments. Some of them are seen with markings on their skin, which may either be culturally significant or personally meaningful to the wearer.

In the ancient past, they had a larger expanse of natural habitats, but more and more as human civilizations emerged and grew into the size we know of today, they were urged to adapt or perish. Their happiness and health are innately rooted in their stewardship of nature, so with how the world has changed for the worse, it has become common for a fairy’s “light” to go dim if left unaddressed. Several phenomena that harm nature may affect them negatively, causing them to dwindle in despair, sometimes at the cost of their lives.

Over the course of time, for better or for worse, they have developed a complex relationship with humans and other races. Most have learned to blend into modern society, often using magic to appear like others, while some have remained cautious and insular, especially in the more reclusive fae realms.

A fae is a precious companion, and their loyalty is earned through actions. When taken in and nurtured with kindness, they may bestow gifts of good fortune (such as luck or safety) and healing to their acquirer.

Fae should choose a guiding element, such as ice, fire, earth, air, etc.

Gumiho

Mischief, desire, cunning, and bewitching behavior. So many tales have been passed down throughout these centuries, depicting them as deceptive evildoers. Needless to say that some of them are. When their hunger strikes there would be no turning back. They are much more complex in their nature than how they are described. Calling them a trickster is almost an insult to their abilities and well as their intelligence. They absorb the energy of other creatures, through their desire and passion, which keeps them going. If they have decided not to eat their prey whole that is. Some might underestimate them, humans especially feel that they can avoid them and save their livers but true creatures within the supernatural side take heed. Gumihos can transform themselves, though their transformation from godly fox creature that towers over many with its grandiose tails to a human form that form is never one looked to be as innocent. Sexy, arousing, captivating in ways that one could never tear their eyes away from.

The will outs those who claim innocence, who claim to be unbothered and incapable of desire. This does not mean that these creatures do not have their weaknesses. Over the centuries these weaknesses were only able to be combated by the Gumiho council of the elders, who have already surpassed thousands and thousands of years. Finding a host for their mighty pearls, able to withstand the never-ending hunger. These pearls are what keep the Gumiho living long, Others have needed to dirty their hands. Their strengths come from the number of tails they possess. Some have lived for thousands of years and are given the chance when once they have found  a mate or vessel that can hold their pearls they can choose to become human. Once this choice is made it cannot be reversed. They will still keep their beauty and appearance but will lose their powers and immortality.

Gumihos as Familiars

These are the foxes who have been taken and tamed. Most were already set to be passed off by their families. Contracts are set and their pearls taken from them and given up to their next owners. These particular Gumihos have lost most of their true strengths. Some had been captured by the hunters, eager to incase and entrap those of supernatural element. Others willingly give themselves up, either for the hefty and desperate price to become human or to serve a lover by any means. They give their pearls as gifts, a bracelet to be worn. Those who are the keepers of these pearls are not affected in the usual way. Gumihos are under their command and because the pearl is not embedded within them it feeds off very little of their energy in order to keep the Gumiho from overpowering them. In both cases, the connection is unbreakable and sometimes unbearable, especially for the Gumiho. If their acquirer suffers, they too suffer twice as much. It can take a nasty turn but also blossom into something beautiful considering who decides to claim one of these beautiful creatures. This is not to say that they are not strong, but they can not harm those that possess their pearls.

Monarch Vampires

The highest-ranking of the vampires, Monarchs are the kings and queens of the hives; the royalty. These are usually the oldest purebloods of the vampires or else heirs that have been born to or chosen by them. On rare occasions, EXTREMELY rare and usually under desperate circumstances, an heir can even be a turned vampire. However, the moment there is another pureblood that can take their place this can easily be changed. Monarchs, similar to alphas, are usually the leaders. They create and enforce the laws and regulations of the clans. Because they are usually the most targeted, especially when they are in hibernation, they are also the most protected as well.

Pureblood Vampires

While purebloods can include royals, they are also those that were not turned from human  or any other race into vampires, but rather by other methods, such as magic, a curse or even, in rare cases, being born into it. Not all purebloods are as strong as the royals, but they have much the same abilities, though some are delayed until they have reached a certain age. This is the reason why they can be almost as targeted as the royals at times. Those that are born purebloods will typically start off as part of the royal hive-archy, or else be a part of their parents’ colony. However, they can branch off to begin their own if they so choose.

Turned Vampires

As the title states, turned vampires are those that have been, well turned. Newly turned vampires are still considered fledglings, and until having proved their worth (by not turning berserk and going on a blood frenzy against everything with a pulse within a certain time frame), they are merely considered collateral, in other words, the front of the line during any battle, or else bait. Once said worth is proven, they are free to live whatever satisfying vampiric life they choose, so long as it doesn’t go against the law code; even start their own small colony or swarm once they are old enough. Turned vampires are warned to not forget their place in the hierarchy though, since they will always have a bond with their sire, one way or another. And, as the saying goes, once brought into the supernatural vampire world.... ;)

Dhampir

Dhampir are born of half-vampire, half another race; typically human. While this can make them physically stronger, said strength is counteracted vampires’ telepathic and manipulative abilities. Depending on the blended race, dhampirs’ ability to use elemental powers are weakened as well. Dhampir is considered the lowest in the vampiric hive-archy, as especially the old families never fail to remind them. Their blood can also be almost as addictive as fae or elven blood to a vampire, though they are also more able to endure. The practice of drinking from a dhampir however is avoided, since they are typically more the bodyguards of the species (yes, these are notes borrowed from vampire academy (book series, not the movie)).

  • - Able to birth purebloods if procreated with a vampire, as any other DNA of theirs gets canceled out

Blood Dolls

As the name might suggest, their role is to satisfy the needs of their vampiric head. This is mostly with the idea of sustenance in mind. However, some have been open to fulfilling other needs as well, if only to experience the high that comes from being fed on for just a little longer. This can be a dangerous game, because if one is a certain race, or else if a vampire is starving enough/newly turned, they can drain a blood doll until their last breath. The willingness of many blood dolls to volunteer their services, even knowing this is the reason there were rules created around the process. If not contracted, or in service to a communal feeding area, a blood doll can only allow 3-5 vampires max to feed on them within a day. If contracted to a single vampire, and their services not being shared, they can only allow said vampire to feed from them 3-5 times within a day. After that, they must allow 2-3 days, or in extreme cases at least a week, before they can be fed on again. These rules may vary, depending on race. All races must maintain their own sustenance before they are fed on. It is mandatory for them to take a blood sugar test beforehand to ensure this.

Werepires

The first wolf/vampire hybrids were made by one of the more vicious vampire clans centuries ago, the vampires there experimenting as they tried to make mindless soldier drones that had the strengths of both werewolves and vampires, and very few weaknesses. The attempts backfired on them, though. Any wolf strong enough to survive the turning was also strong enough to break the sire bond.

That’s not to say there are many of these hybrids, or werepires as they have chosen to call themselves. Only the very strongest make it through the turning and fledgling years without losing themselves to the bloodlust before they can learn to control it. This means that they are all alpha wolves. There is rumor of a beta that also survived the process, but it has yet to be confirmed. No omega has ever survived turning.

Because the number of werepires is so low, they’ve historically only had a few enclaves in Europe and North America, but the first enclave outside of those regions has been formed, located in Seoul by a werepire that was turned only a few years ago, called the Saebyeog Enclave.

  • Telepathic communication/projection, with those that have been sired by them

  • Pain manipulation upon a certain age (weaker than blood manipulation)

  • Blood drainage

  • Able to turn humans into vampires, or other wolves into werepires (after 2-5 years)

Because they were initially alpha wolves, they are still subject to ruts, scenting, and all other physical aspects of their wolf heritage.

Incubus

Only talked about in hushed whispers, incubi are demons whose main drive is sex. While the stories that have grown around them say they appear to their victims at night, they actually walk amongst the rest of the world just like every other creature. To seduce their chosen target, or to effect a group of people, they exude a specific pheromone, one that is subtle but able to smell like whatever is most appealing to the person inhaling it. It can take very little for them to catch the attention of someone, and some species are susceptible to becoming addicted to an incubus's pheromones. There have been stories of incubi being held captive unwillingly, but incubi are very hard to actually keep under lock and key, as they can travel through shadows. That said, as demons incubi will form contracts with people, and in exchange for not using their powers on the contract holder, the incubi will be able to eat that person's soul upon their death. Contracting with any type of demon is a very serious thing, and should not be taken on lightly.

Incubi are created when a fully mature incubus impregnates a human woman, and the woman gives birth to a male, who will also be in incubus. As children incubi do not generally stand out from their human peers, though occasionally some are below average size. All of that changes in their teen years as puberty takes over. Being demons, their looks are not entirely human, often referred to as too perfect. Their powers will start appearing in their 20s, and an incubus is generally considered fully mature at some point between the ages of 30 and 40, when they have full control of all of their powers and abilities, and they stop showing signs of aging. They are immortal only in the sense that they do not age or die of natural causes.
